The Parenting Chronicles: Real Stories from Real Mums (And Dads)

Introduction:

Hi everyone! I'm Christine, a working mom of two children living in Dubai. Today, I'm excited to share my motherhood journey with you.

Opening Up:

  • What was a turning point in your motherhood journey? Was it a joy, a challenge that made you stronger, or something else that shaped who you are as a mother today?

Returning to work after two years of COVID-19 stay-at-home parenting was a significant turning point in my motherhood journey. It was a mix of emotions: excitement to re-enter the professional world, anxiety about leaving my children in someone else's care, and a sense of guilt for not being able to spend as much time with them as I had during the pandemic.

The transition was challenging, but it also made me stronger and more adaptable. I learned to balance work and family responsibilities, to trust my children's school, and to appreciate the value of both motherhood and my career. This experience shaped who I am as a mother today, teaching me that I can be a loving and nurturing parent while also pursuing my own goals and aspirations.

Finding Your Balance:

  • Motherhood has so many facets. How do you find harmony between your roles as a mum, your personal identity, and your career or passions?

Finding this harmony is a constant challenge but a rewarding one. I've learned to prioritise self-care and set boundaries to maintain a healthy work-life balance. I also try to find ways to incorporate my passions into my motherhood journey, whether it's reading to my children, teaching them new skills, or pursuing creative hobbies together. This helps me feel fulfilled and connected to my children while maintaining my own sense of self.

Support Systems:

  • We all need a listening ear or helping hand sometimes! Who are the people in your “village” who uplift you on your motherhood journey?

My support system includes my husband and my best friend who lives back home. They're always there to listen, offer advice, and provide encouragement.

Advice for New Mums:

  • If you could go back in time, what’s one piece of wisdom you’d give yourself as a brand-new mum?

Remember that motherhood is a journey, not a destination. Don't be afraid to take things one day at a time. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. It's okay to not be able to do everything on your own.

Celebrating Motherhood:

  • In the whirlwind of daily life, how do you carve out moments to celebrate the gift of parenthood, big and small?

Every night before bed, I take a few minutes to reflect on the day and appreciate the little moments. One of our family traditions is reading bedtime stories together. It's a comforting ritual that helps us bond and relax before bed. We also love to capture special moments with photos and videos.

As a mom of 2 young children, I can relate to the challenges and joys of motherhood. It's important to find balance, seek support, and celebrate the little moments.
